The Consortium of Fishermen of Goro (Copego) is a cooperative established in 1970 that has its roots in the 1930s, when the fishermen of Goro decided to unite for the management of the fish market. In 1970, Copego took on its current corporate connotation. In those years, a collaboration was also initiated with the University of Ferrara, which led to the carrying out of experiments on the reproduction of molluscs aimed at launching the breeding of mussels and clams. It was a winning choice that allowed the company to acquire a leading position in the shellfish farming sector. Over time, it has become more specialised and established an advanced aquaculture system. Today, it sells its products in Italy and abroad (Spain, France and Germany); industrially, it manages all stages of the chain: harvesting, packaging, production and marketing. Activities are carried out on 620 hectares of clam farms in the sacca di Goro and over a thousand hectares of mussels.

To today, Copego associates around 600 fishermen members divided by trade: large and small-scale fisheries, Venus clams fishermen, mussel farmers and breeders of Veraci Clams and Oysters.

Copego also has its own in-house laboratory that tests the quality of raw materials and performs chemical and microbiological analyses on all products. In the processing facilities, it has invested in the Stabularium, a product purification plant that has been in operation since 1976 and is one of the largest in Europe. Completing the business are the ownership of the Ice Factory for the production of ice in briquettes, flakes and cubes, the Il Cavalluccio fishmonger's shop with all the catch of the day at 0 km, the management of the wholesale fish market, and the ownership of the Coopenergy fuel station located directly on the port of Goro for refuelling boats.
